Portobello Road is my favourite street market in London. It combines fabulous food with wonderful vintage clothes and antiques. It is vibrant, colourful and fun and is even better on a sunny summer saturday. In recent years, the hit movie Notting Hill has made it a really popular destination with tourists. This adds to the vibrancy but sometimes makes it very busy on a Saturday.
My favorite part of the market is up towards Ladbrooke Grove, under the rail bridge. It is not particularly foodie but has a great selection of young designers and artists pedaling wonderful original designs. I am currently obsessing over a beautiful bracelet that I spotted there last weekend….may just have to treat myself! 🙂
From a food point of view, there is a great selection. About half way down the market lies a selection of fruit and vegetable stands, followed by many streetfood stalls. After much deliberating, I chose a chorizo bean stew for lunch. Unfortuatly it was so tasty that I did not manage to get a picture before wolfing it down! It was great value, a large tray of stew with bread for £3!
There are beautiful bread and flower stalls too, the smells and colours are a feast for all the senses! It would not be a trip to portobello without visiting the famous Hummingbird Bakery. Their delicious confectionaries are too good to walk past!
Here are a few photos to give you an idea of the experience that is Portobello Road! Go and experience it for yourself…it really is worth it!
Thats it for today guys,
Until next time…XXX
