Irish Food in Boston

Happy July everybody! Its been a whirlwind few months here in sunny Boston with Sásta popping up all over the place. From farmers markets to specialty food stores, we are having a brilliant summer bringing Irish food to the masses.

One of the things I have loved most about working at farmers markets here is listening to people’s stories about their Irish travels and their heritage.It never ceases to amaze me the influence our little green rock in the sea seems to hold over people. I suppose it makes sense though….living in Boston, its hard to avoid the Irish influence in this city. So many people I have spoken to long for a taste of Ireland, things they miss from home. Irish Stew – A Proper St Patricks Meal!

I knew St. Patricks day was a big deal in the US – I am just not sure I knew it was this big! When I say everything turns green,  I mean everything! The rivers, the coffee, the beer – yep, all a lurid color known as Kelly Green! Its so big here in Boston that the famed mayor of the 1940’s Mr J.M. Yesterday, I turned 30. I was not particularly stressed about it nor am I a massive birthday person but I have spent some time lately thinking about where life has brought me in the last decade. Bibimbap: Korean Rice Bowls

I ve basically become addicted to asian food. Its true, if it has rice or noodles and some obscure asian ingredients….I am on board! We are lucky enough in Boston to be surrounded by great Japanese, Korean and Thai restaurants. From Bibimbap to Thai larb, there is little I have found that I haven’t enjoyed! We are still searching for good Indian food so any input on that front will be most welcome.

Savory Buckwheat Crepes

I know it sounds strange but similar to scent, food can bring me back to happy moments in my past. I smell tarte tatin and I am immediately transported to a small village restaurant in the coastal town of  Port Grimaud (near St Tropez) where we shared the dessert as a birthday treat for my mother many years ago.
